You've taken the class... you've moved all the furniture in your living room/dining room/garage so you could practice your steps ... so, now what?We often run into former students and ask them, "So how's the dancing going?" They sheepishly admit that they haven't practiced, so they feel like they've forgotten it all. So we teamed up with the YMCA to offer monthly Dance Socials. Our socials are held at the Family Y's new community facility on McDermid Drive (the old Highland Elementary School). These events provide a low-pressure, friendly atmosphere where students (past present or future) and their friends can come practice... and instructors Alison and Attila are there to help out, if needed. Dance DJ Alison plays non-stop Swing, Salsa, Waltz, Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, Two-Step, and Polka. (We even put out signs that tell you what kind of dance you can do for the music... so you don't have to guess.) At 7:00, Alison and Attila offer a 30-minute mini-lesson to teach beginners the basic steps of the dance-of-the-month. Non-beginners are welcome to practice their own moves or help out the beginners. At 7:30, the lesson will wind down and we will start open dancing. ● Jan 30, 7:30-10:00, (7:00-7:30 Mini-Lesson: Triple Step East Coast Swing) ● Feb 27, 7:30-10:00, (7:00-7:30 Mini-Lesson: West Coast Swing) ● Mar 27, 7:30-10:00, (7:00-7:30 Mini-Lesson: Nite Club 2) ● Apr 24, 7:30-10:00, (7:00-7:30 Mini-Lesson: Salsa) ● May 29, 7:30-10:00, (7:00-7:30 Mini-Lesson: Rumba) ● Jun 26, 7:30-10:00, (7:00-7:30 Mini-Lesson: Cha Cha)
A lesson and two hours of dancing! Only $5 per person, free for Y members. Come down - meet other dancers, practice your skills, and try something new!
